Introduction

Introduction

Cleaner Technology and Modelling Division (CTMD) established as a part of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in June 2016. The focus of the CTMD is to develop sustainable solutions for environmental problems through environmental modelling and cleaner technologies for pollutants removal and generation of renewable energy through catalysis and adsorption.


Goals:

  1. Development of sustainable technologies for mitigation ofenvironmental problems
  2. Demonstration of these technologies on a pilot-scale.
  3. Evaluation of the techno-economic feasibilities.
  4. Development and Application of Numerical Models for prediction of Environmental Quality
  5. Development and Application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) based Models and Analytical Tools for Natural Resources  Management
  6. Development and Application of Environmental Systems Design, Detailed Engineering, Costing and Drawings for the design of Water Supply and Sewerage Systems
  7. Application of Advanced Numerical and Graphics Tools  (Mike, ERDAS IMAGINE, e-Cognition, XPSWMM, SPSS, MATLAB, ANN etc) for Environmental Systems Modelling and Management.

Research Areas:

  1. Catalysis for renewable energy systems
    • Hydrogen storage and delivery using Liquid Organic Hydrides
    • Cleaning of hydrogen gas by preferential oxidation of CO
  2. Catalysis for controlling vehicular exhaust emissions
  3. Developing adsorptive separation systems for gases such as CO2/CH4 or CO2/N2 separation
  4. Technologies for treatment of wastewater
    • Phytorid system for treatment of wastewater
  5. Technologies for treatment of drinking water
    • Removal of nitrates from drinking water
  6. Urban flood modelling and management
    • Application of 1-D, 2-D, 1-D coupled 2-D hydrodynamic, hydraulic and hydrological modelling
  7. Risk assessment in water distribution system.
  8. Source apportionment for air pollution.
  9. Remote sensing and GIS application.
  10. Environmental big-data and supercomputing
    • Analysis of Hyper spectral and high resolution satellite images and climate change modelling

This Institute is involved in development and application of numerical models for prediction of environmental quality;  development and application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and  Remote Sensing (RS) based models and analytical tools for natural resources  management;  development and application of environmental systems design, detailed engineering, costing and drawings for the design of water supply and sewerage systems;  development and application of environmental systems design, detailed engineering, costing and drawings for the design of water and wastewater treatment systems; application of advanced numerical and graphics tools  (SPSS, MATLAB, ANN etc) for environmental systems analysis and management.
