DZL organized a six-day National Workshop “Air Pollution Emission Inventory Workshop” in collaboration with MuZL during December 4 - 9, 2006 at the DZL Training Hall. The Workshop was supported by Agencies like MoEF, CPCB, USEPA, USAID and Asian Development Bank.
In all, 46 participants from different cities, viz. Vishakhapatnam, Nasik, Durgapur, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Agra representing respective State Pollution Control Boards; IITs; TERI; and CPCB participated in the Workshop. The theme of the Workshop, i.e. particulate matter emission inventory for Indian cities using an MS-Excel Spreadsheet Tool was well explained and demonstrated during the six-day Workshop through a series of lectures by experts followed by hands-on experience for application of the Tool for estimation and preparation of inventory of particulate matter emissions from different sources. Some key sources in cities which were discussed in detailed for their significant particulate emission were traffic sector, industries, paved and unpaved road dust, construction activities, etc.
The Workshop also included field visits to a construction site and a foundry in Gurgaon for first hand experience of particulate emissions from these activities.
Eight working groups – one for each city were constituted who worked for specific city and developed the emission inventory scenarios with city specific emission sources. Results obtained by applying the Worksheet Tool were later presented by the respective teams before a distinguished panel comprising experts drawn from MoEF, CPCB, and USEPA.
