Design and study of photo-system for protection of heritage structures against nocturnal insect's species , (Year : 2018)
|
Generally, many insect species get attracted towards historically important monuments and structure due to changing environmental conditions, increasing pollution load, illumination and material. Proposed work has potential to improve the life and aesthetic of national monuments in long run and preserve them for future generations. Study will provide unique solution for each monument using site specific baseline information, knowledge drawn using opto-electronic, entomology and environmental engineering. Hence, the combined output of the project will provide sustainable environmental solution for monument protection. During replication of the management plan and hardware modules, the wavelength of photo system is proposed to change as per specific insect species found near identified heritage monument.

Development of Low cost Oxidation Catalysts for Diesel Exhaust Emission Control, (Year : 2018)
|
Development of non-Pt group metal catalysts for automobile, diesel soot oxidations. Low-cost, non-Pt based catalysts (e.g., Strontium-based perovskites) are being explored for diesel soot oxidation, which showed higher catalytic activity compared to the reported non-noble catalysts and at par with those commercial high cost platinum catalysts. Indian patent application has been submitted to CSIR-IPMD on these potential catalyst compositions.

Integrated low cost water sensors for real-time river water monitoring and decision making, (Year : 2017)
|
The objectives of the proposed five-year project work are to :
- develop sensors for chemical oxygen demand (COD), microbial indicators and water flow which can be used for determining water quality parameters as well as water flow characteristics in river
- integrate commercial sensors for obtaining water quality parameters with above developed sensors using integrated ASIC chip
- integrate real-time data for developing an early warning system for protecting human health using distributed analytics and sense making (i.e., Sensor Warn, hereafter).

Technologies for robust structural health monitoring of critical infrastructure and conservation & restoration of heritage structures., (Year : 2018)
|
India is one of the countries having rich, ancient culture which is represented by artefacts and monuments present all over India. Environmental pollutants such as acid rain, bacterial load and air pollution have damaged these precious heritage structures over the years and these may be lost in near future. Since, the heritage monuments are sensitive to chemical treatments owing to their natural construction and use of natural dyes, their cleaning needs to be addressed sensitively. Hence, sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) and nitrogen reducing bacteria (NRB) innoculum will be studied and tested as biocleaning tools to remove salts deformities on the heritage structures which are mainly responsible for spoiling them. In this study, we are also focusing on the biological aspect of using bacteriophages as antimicrobial agents to reduce microbial load and bacteria-mediated spoilage of heritage structures. The main objective of this study is to conserve and protect the heritage structures in India.
