Gel electrophoresis is a method for separation and analysis of macromolecules (DNA, RNA and proteins) and their fragments, based on their size and charge.
Application:
1. Estimation of the size of DNA molecules following restriction enzyme digestion.
2. Analysis of PCR products.
3. Separation of restricted genomic DNA prior to Southern transfer or of RNA prior to Northern transfer.
